Heyburn State Park Yoga-Adventure Tour, July 21-27, 2019

We’re teaming up with CJoy Yoga to bring you a week filled with a huge variety of activities. How does this sound?

• Beautiful campsite with a large grassy area and views of the lake

• Yoga sessions every morning and evening - on the lawn, on the dock at the lake, or even on paddleboards!

• Paddleboarding right from camp with a short walk to the lake – exploring the open water of Lake Chatcolet, paddling to a nearby sandy beach, or meandering up a narrow channel through reeds and lilypads past beaver dams (and beavers!), otters, herons and eagles

• Hiking nearby wooded trails to ridgelines overlooking the lake

• Biking nearby sections of the paved, nearly flat 72-mile Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes

• Relaxing at a nearby swimming beach

• Spending time in camp reading, playing games or napping under the shady trees

• Enjoying the company of our small group of fellow adventurers around the campfire

You can join as many or as few of our guided activities as you like, allowing you to find just the right mix of exercise, adventure and relaxation depending on your interests and energy level.

This is the perfect trip if you’re new to adventure camping and want to try some different activities with experienced guides at a comfortable pace. But we’ll have opportunities for those who want to push themselves a little harder as well!

We provide all transportation, food, tent-camping gear and recreational equipment*. Just bring your clothes, sleeping bag and hiking boots and we’ll take care of the rest.

*Bring your own bike, if you like.

Newberry yoga-adventure: August 11-17, 2019

Camp for a week at the edge of an alpine lake in the crater of an active volcano!

Epic hiking, yoga, paddling and exploring – all from camp or within a few minutes’ drive.

We’ll begin each morning with yoga on the beach with CJoy Yoga. Then after breakfast we’ll go for a 3-4 hour hike (4-8 miles total). Afternoons will be a mix of lounging on the beach or leisurely paddling around the lake, sightseeing excursions to nearby attractions such as waterfalls, lava caves, scenic areas, historical or geological sites and museums, or even shopping in Sunriver or Bend. Local legends also tell of a 45 minute hike to a natural rock water-slide nearby…

Here’s a sample of some of the hikes we’ll go on, depending on each day’s weather conditions and our group ambitions and energy level:

  • Cinder Hill Viewpoint Hike: Six mile round-trip hike through the woods with 1,000’ elevation gain from the campground to the top of the crater rim, with expansive views of the caldera, lakes and Cascade Mountains from the viewpoint.

  • Paulina Lakeshore Loop Hike: 7.5 mile loop around scenic Paulina Lake. Mostly flat.

  • Paulina Peak Hike: 2 mile steep hike to the 7,984’ elevation summit of Paulina Peak from the crater floor – 1,400’ elevation gain. You can drive up, but the views are so much better when you earn them, right?!

  • Big Obsidian Flow Downhill Shuttle Hike: 5.5 mile hike from the crater rim around the Big Obsidian Flow and down to the crater floor. We’ll drive to the top of the crater rim, hike through pumice fields on the outside flanks of the crater rim, make a short uphill hike to the crest of the crater rim, then descend around the edges of the Big Obsidian Flow.

Learn more about Newberry National Volcanic Monument here.

Cost: $1,500. $200 non-refundable deposit to reserve (refunded if we don’t reach our minimum booking)

Dates: August 11-17, 2019 (Sunday - Saturday) Full payment due 7/14/19

Tours depart from Walla Walla on Sunday at 9:00 am and arrive back in Walla Walla by 5:00 pm the following Saturday. It's about a 6 hour drive to Newberry in Central Oregon.
